>>>>>>>>Social Studies Government Inquiry Project for Homework - first draft due on Monday>>>>>>>>>>>
Hi Parents and Guardians,
For our Social Studies project the students picked an issue in the community, province or country (or all three) and will do an inquiry on it. The students created there questions with guidance. We focused on having Higher Order Thinking Questions embedded into their project along with essential questions. The students have to look at an issue and do an inquiry on the issue and what level of government is responsible for the said issue.
They came up with the issues themselves and had the option to work alone or with a group for the questions & research part only. They used a question chart to help them create both essential and Higher order thinking questions. Please see the link to the questions that they created.
They have to do their research over the weekend and address the questions. We are looking at developing analytical and critical thinking skills.
They have to write (not type) out their research.
Based on some of the topics, please monitor their online use in the event of any inappropriate content. They are very excited about their issue so please support them and guide their thinking.
The other areas of focus are reading comprehension and writing. They need to read and grasp the information and look deeper into the issue. The writing piece is gathering information, sorting and organizing followed by pulling it all together as an essay.
Then we move to the media literacy focus where they create a multimedia presentation and share. This is how the project unfolds.
